About the hotel
The Drunken Duck is a small country inn at Barngates, on a quiet lane in the fells between Ambleside and Hawkshead. It has 11 individually styled rooms above a busy pub and restaurant, with outdoor seating and a garden, and Tarn Hows and Wray Castle are each about a mile and a half away.
Food is a big part of the draw: there are breakfast, lunch, Sunday roast and dinner menus, and staying guests still need to book a restaurant table separately. It suits couples and walkers after a rural base with a good kitchen. Only one room takes dogs, though dogs are welcome in the bar.
Rooms: Standard, Superior, King.
